PVC, more scientifically known as polyvinyl chloride, is a durable plastic material used to make above ground and under ground water pipes. If you cut a length of pipe long enough to cover the base of your fishing pole with enough pipe length left over to properly anchor it into the ground, you have a quick, home-made fishing pole holder. As far as the torch stands go, they are done similarly. In many cases, the pipe can be painted a color to complement your garden, or a more neutral color if you want it to fade into the background.
