Pvc Pipe Projects Article
PVC Pipes Aren’t Just For Moving Water Anymore
PVC, more scientifically known as polyvinyl chloride, is a durable plastic material used to make above ground and under ground water pipes. It is used to make water pipes because of the properties in the material that allow the material to be more rust-resistant. PVC water pipes are a relatively inexpensive alternative for water transportation, and because they have been so widely used for this, ordinary people have begun to put PVC pipes to use in other, less conventional ways.
Carpenters and craftsmen all over the world have become so skilled at using PVC pipes in these non-conventional ways, one may not even be aware that a piece of furniture they are looking at is made of plain PVC pipes. It is used in a variety of ways to create a variety of things, from garden structures, to furniture, to materials for kids crafts. The great thing about PVC pipes that crafters love so much is that it is resistant to so many different types of weather, it is easily bolted to things, it is easily cut with a jigsaw and you can even buy corner connecting pieces, although PVC pipe is easily bent, if needed.
Another great thing about PVC pipe for crafting and building is that it is so easily painted, and it is lightweight yet durable and can withstand a great deal of weight. As PVC pipe has become more widely used for these other less conventional purposes, PVC pipe is even made in a grade recommended specifically for furniture. It withstands a great more deal of weight and resists bending more than other grades of PVC pipe. Your local hardware store may carry furniture-grade PVC pipe, or let you know where you might be able to find it if it is carried.
PVC pipes are used for a variety of reasons. If not for building furniture, PVC pipes can make simply assembled fishing pole stands and outdoor torch stands. If you cut a length of pipe long enough to cover the base of your fishing pole with enough pipe length left over to properly anchor it into the ground, you have a quick, home-made fishing pole holder. As far as the torch stands go, they are done similarly. In many cases, the pipe can be painted a color to complement your garden, or a more neutral color if you want it to fade into the background.
If you are not intrigued by the possibilities of PVC pipes for crafting and building by now, you aren’t a true craftsperson! It is one of the most inexpensive building materials you would be able to afford, costing less than $3 a yard at most of your main local hardware stores. With PVC pipes, the possibilities are endless! People are making a profit left and right using PVC pipes to create furniture, art, and outdoor garden accessories; they sell for a pretty penny and the overhead is extremely affordable.
