PVC Projects for The Garden

PVC piping is such a versatile building material. It’s great for building anything, because it is durable and resilient, and can be easily cut or extended using connecting pieces, so it lends to almost any craft project or building project.

If you are a Home and Garden aficionado, consider the benefits of PVC projects for your outdoor projects. One of the most widely utilized functions of PVC in the garden is for use in creating outdoor greenhouses, tomato houses, or hoop houses. People also use PVC piping to create outdoor arbors for their gardens or nets to cover their plants and keep them away from birds and other animals at night.

What Is PVC Pipe?

PVC stands for ‘Polyvinyl Chloride.’ It is a pipe that is commonly used in underground water systems and the like, because of the material’s resiliency and durability, and rust-resisting properties. These are the same great qualities that make it perfect for use in our outdoor garden building projects!

Where Can I Find PVC Pipe?

You can find PVC pipe at your local hardware store or home improvement store. The Home Depot, Lowe’s, or Menard’s in your area should carry PVC pipe in their inventory, if you have one close to you. It can be ordered in pre-measured sections or you can ask an associate to measure and cut it for you. This can take a while so if you do not wish to wait for an associate to help you with this, it is perfectly fine to cut the sections of pipe yourself using a small jigsaw or similar device.

Is PVC Pipe Expensive?

PVC pipe is a relatively inexpensive material for building, which is one of the reasons why it is so popular and widely used for constructing things. It can be purchased from the hardware store, usually for less than $1 per foot of material.

What Kinds of Outdoor Structures Can Be Made Using PVC Pipe?

* Green Houses
* Tomato Cages
* Hot House Tomato Houses
* Outdoor arbors
* Blueberry nets
* Tomato nets
* Gazebos
* Bird houses
* Bird House Stands
* Squirrel Houses
* And More!!

The great thing about PVC pipe when it comes to outdoor structures is that it is designed to take the elements well. PVC pipe can be drilled and painted; it can be bent and cut to fit your needs (although corner pieces are usually pretty easy to find, and can make a more uniform structure). Also, PVC pipes take to glue, which is a hard property to find in plastic building pieces.

So the next time you have a need for something in your garden, whether it be a structure to plant vegetables in or just a net to keep the birds and the animals out of your plants, consider the benefits of PVC as a building material. It can help to keep your building costs down, and increase the life of your structure, as it resists weather and normal wear and tear a lot longer than any cheap wood remnants you would be able to find at the store, let alone the fact that natural ingredients attract bugs and animals more than the plastic and vinyl used in PVC pipes.
